  • Max II voltage regulator wiring help needed.

I have an older Max II that originally had a 2 stroke engine (not sure what brand, the engine was missing when I bought the Max). I have put in a Kohler 16hp 4 stroke that was originally in a Hustler 950. The voltage regulator on the Kohler engine is bad, and I want to use the regulator on the Max to replace it. The Kohler regulator had two yellow wires from the engine, one wire to the + on the battery, and was grounded to the engine through bolts. The Max regulator has the two yellow wires to go to the engine, a red wire to go to the battery, bolted to the frame, but also has a white wire that I do not know what to hook to. Is this white wire a ground, or would it just not be used on a 4 stroke engine (maybe it was a kill wire for the 2 stroke?).

Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to fry the regulator by hooking it up wrong.

    Thanks
I don't want to go fast, I just want to go anywhere.

I didnt think you would need the white wire but wasn't 100% sure and didnt want to help you ruin your regulator, lol. So I searched around to found this wiring diagram showing a wire going to the switch. I think it runs the lights? It would be the kind that dim down when at an idle? I could be wrong but maybe someone else can help confirm. If it was me I would hook it up without it and see what happens even risking ruining it, lol. I wish it showed what all the switch terminals comes in contact with.

Thanks for the help, it turns out my stator was also bad. I found a good price on a stator and regulator for that engine, so I am just gonna replace them and take care of both problems.

Just a bit of a reminder. When you put it all back together, make sure that the regulator os mounted, or at least grounded to the motor/chassis. It relies on it, and you'll roach it if it isn't mounted. Hope all works well for you.
It's all just nuts and bolts.
