    Whats factory new compression on an 18 hp briggs?

      I had around 140 on seven cranks on both with a Max around 175 lbs

        Briggs does not specify a definate compression figure. What they suggest in their t/s proceedures is to compare to a like engine. Which has been posted here. (BY Castro) And at 140 PSI, the reading is VERY acceptable in the 4 stroke generic specs. WEhat you want to make sure of is that the max compression reading of both cylinders doesn't differ by more that 10%. (As with any 4 stroke engine from highest cylinder reading to lowest). And when you test with a gage, crank with both plugs out and until the (needle on the) gage reaches it's maximum reading.
        It's all just nuts and bolts.

          a briggs it really depends some have 140 and some go to 150
