Sorry about that...It still has a choke but it was as Race said, wired to the open position. I have never used it and it starts fine without one, even during the winter. Guess i just had a senior moment. Just forgot it was there.

Well I'm sold. Just waiting for wife's approval. We will be in NC a couple of times this summer and hope I can get one before fall. I have my Briggs running perfect, plenty of power and no issues as of yesterday. But I need more power!!! Any short term options?

I'm interested in this too because I want to re-power my 950 to something stronger and lighter then the stock B&S 18 HP engine, I had a lead on a used 23 HP vanguard, but failed to materialize. On the Bandolero, what alternator do they have? I want power but also want to be able to power more electrical. New headlights, backup light, engine fan, and a high flow bilge pump (got a 500gph cheap).

I am also thinking of getting a Bandolero engines from 600Racing. I currently have a 16hp Briggs in my Max II. My questions are: will I need to get a new clutch? I currently have an external exhaults and want to convert to an internal (melted a hole in lower tub wall). where can I get an internal exhaults(with heat shields)?

I am using a stock clutch on mine. The downside is that it is only rated for 5000RPM but it hasn't posed a problem yet. I'm not saying that is a smart thing to do but it has been working. You can get the internal muffler and heat shields from the factory or your local max dealer. Thanks once again Mike,
This site is great and field with every end and out of AATV's as soon as I finish with Stage II upgrades Ill post more pics. The Engine and internal muffler is part of Stage III. Im having a ball with my Max II, plus being back in the land of the free and home of the brave is the biggest plus.

                  So Gents,

I am curious about these bandelero engines, can it be fairly easy to swap one of these in the 1970s 8x8 Argo that I am working on? I would like to know how much trouble I am going to have changing this out...and if I really need to spend 1600 of my friends money. I need options to get this thing powered and reliable.

                  Thanks folks

It's a pretty easy swap. It's basically a Briggs 20HP which has the same bolt pattern as the 18HP block. It also has a 1" crank, just like an 18HP Vanguard. I think your best bet would be contact 600 Racing. They've dealt with quite a few 6X6World members and they'll help you out.

What about kohler engines? I've had them in lawn mowers and they are torqey mofos that run forever?

If my Briggs ever goes I might go kohler. Although I do have a 20 HP Onan v twin just sitting in a old Sears suburban tractor.....
