  • need a new motor

Im looking to replace my 18 hp briggs with a 23 hp briggs and I think the 18 motor has a 2 29/32 shaft 1/4 key & 3/8 taped end and the 23 has a 3 inch shaft will this work ? have not had time to pull the motor out or i would not be asking this ,please help Thanks

your only looking at a difference of 3/32" so you should be ok. many machines have slots to adjust the engine side to side a bit and if yours does you will have more than enough to compensate.

i'm watching this thread thomas. i may have to replace mine in 01 bigfoot so if you could post updates or pm me about what you find and do that would be great. i would also like to do a 23hp and would like to know your thoughts once installed if you go that route.

              thanks

Hi, just got my new 23hp vanguard motor in and running in 2000 argo BIG FOOT the old 18hp died not to much to modify with the new motor i had to take out the blower duct work that blows on the disk brakes but the new argo dont even have those, unless you are allwas driveing in a circle yank it out , the old muffler wont fit got one from boney farm store in ALEDO ILL price 125.00 not 2 bad, had 2 drill 2 new holes in the heat sheild so it would fit the muffler. the motor came from small engine warehouse.com on ebay price 1402.58 free shipping. i allso changed all the chains and the bearings in the front, lot easer with the motor out. I love it that 23 hp motor is unreal

There's a world of difference between the 18HP and 23HP Vanguard. The 18HP is a GREAT motor with tons of power, but the 23HP is an absolute monster. It will spin all 6 of my 26x13x12 Vampire ASX tires in the mud on my Hustler BIGFOOT without hesitation.
