  • Kohler Command 20 questions

My Kohler has some idle issues. If I have the choke almost fully open it will idle fine. When I move the choke to wide open then it will stall and die.
It seems like turning this screw in and out has some effect. What do you call this adjustment? Is this what I need to tweak or is it something else?

that's the high speed adjustment screw it controls maximum rpm's run the screw out to decrease and in to increase maximum rpm's shouldn't do much for idle though
they dont call me mad because im angry!!!!! im just a little crazy thats all!!!!

Download the service manual. You will find a section on the carb and governor adjustments.

        hi
Governor adjustment as mentioned above .
Kohler v twins radomly suffer from head gasket leaking and inlet manifold to head face leaking vacumn . Spray carb cleaner or better engine start fluid around manifold ,engine will change rpm . Also there should be vacum at pcv port not pressure .Check compression and do leak down also .

Thanks for the suggestions. It turned out to be a dirty/plugged up carb. I had someone clean it up for me and it ran great for a few hours. It then started to exhibit the same symptoms and soon after I couldn't get it to run for more than a minute without moving the choke in and out. I took it apart myself this time and found that the screws to open up the diaphram were really tight - like it was never opened up. Once I got that opened, I found a bunch of crud in there that I cleaned up. It started and idled fine after that, but I haven't run it long enough to know for sure if I fixed the problem, but I'm pretty sure it'll be fine now.

This was on a MAX that had been sitting for a while...the old fuel filter was full of junk. I did replace that, but apparently it let some stuff through.
