  • Best idle speed Conquest

Ok so I sonic cleaned my carb and reassembled and fired her up. I noticed that the idle now is around 650rpm and is low enough that the charging light will come on while idleing. I did not change any of the adjustments of any of the screws. First, is it normal for idle rpm to drop after a carb cleaning without changing any of the adjustments? Secondly, if I turn up the idle, which screw is it and to what speed should I set it? It was always hard to get into gear and always seemed to idle high. I have googled idle settings for the FD620D and all are around 1450 to 1550 rpm. Seems kind of high for Conquest use. Also I noticed since I cleaned the carb, that it doesn't seem to smoke out the the exhaust like it did during a cold start. It does start right up though with this low idle thing going on and will start without having to put the choke on full like before the carb cleaning. Could just be the heat in Chicago here too. Any suggestions.

70 views....no replies...which is fine for now cause I'm waiting on a gasket.

...... Actually, I haven't the faintest idea what any of my Conquests idle at, lol. I see no reason for your idle to drop after cleaning, but you can bump it back up with the screw under the air cleaner, it just positions your throttle linkage a bit. Clockwise to increase.

Most of the conquest's idle slow enough that charge light blinks. Usually 1000 to 1100 rpm is ok to shift without grinding.

My conquest idles with the charge light on. My argo dealer told me to set the idle just slow enough so the tranny won't grind when shifting into gear.
