  • Briggs electric starter not working

Hi guys, I recently got a 1994 Max II upgraded to a BS Vanguard 18hp can't get electric starter to work. Cranks and runs on pull start with ignation turned on. What have I done wrong? Anyone got the wiring diagrams for the Max II so I can figure this out. Thanks

Did you try tapping on the starter or jumping the solenoid? Is this a new motor?

I connected the grounding strap but will check again, didn't do any tapping on starter but very close space to work in. Will try. My e-mail is Bakerlodge3542@hotmail.com. Not a new motor but very few hours< 20 I think. Thanks Guys

Alright guys, finally got back to work on Max. Checked grounding strap and connection all seem good. Hooked up wire to starter that I missed, but still doesn"t work. Starter spins free. There is a fuse missing in wirings from the Max to engine would that stop it from working?

That fuse is likely going from the regulator to the battery. You can replace it, but if that's the fuse I'm thinking of, it won't be the problem. Have you tried bridging the solenoid with a screw driver or heavy (HEAVY) gauge wire? Do you even get a "click!" out of the solenoid when you turn the key?

The solenoids supplied in the Max machines are notoriously of cheap quality.
