how many amps does the stock 18 vanguard have available for accessories?

I believe most of the stock regulators only put out 16A. I think there was a thread on what it would take to upgrade that a while back. I'll see if I can find it.

i had herd about the 16A but wasn't sure, but what i am wondering about is how much of that is available for accessories?
how many amps are required to keep the battery charged up?
if you were running lights that use 4A, and say a heater at 12A would the 2A left be enough to keep the battery charged?
and if you keep the charging system at 100% for long periods of time will it fry it?

hi,
It depends on the engines original application as to what charge system is fitted .
The best place to identify is the manual as there are at least 6 or 7 different charge systems .
If the engine has a voltage regulator on the side of the engine it is either 10 or 16 amp most likely . The systems are also identified by the colour and number of stator wires coming from behind the engine cover . In addition to this the colour of the connector also determines output .
When all of the above is done there are are 3 or 4 different flywheels which also determine out put [size of magnet ] .
The 20 amp system has its own regulator ,stator and flywheel .

You might also consider a small (Amp Draw) heater blower motor. The cabs on these is pretty small, so it doesn't take much time/air to warm them up and keep them warm. And the air doesn't have to be "Forced as hard as in cars and trucks. A motor from an old cordless drill or rechargable vacuum cleaner should do ok, and would drop your amp draw quite considerably. Also, look for an inductive (Brushless) motor. They draw less amps.It's all just nuts and bolts.
