  • 16hp vanguard with tapered threaded end shaft from generator. Will a clutch go on it

I'd like to know if anyone ever used a 16hp vanguard that came from a generator that has a tappered shaft with the threaded end on it. If i bought the motor i want to make sure i can get a clutch to fit it so i can convert to a 4 stroke from 2. Thanks JasonK

In my experience It will Not work you have to replace the shaft or the clutch will not go on far enough I have a 5 hp off a log spliter I wanted to use for a go cart that would not work.

So basicly i'd have to replace the whole crank shaft in the motor? The old 2 stroke 400 in there now has a tappered shaft a 30mm like all older snowmobiles had. I figured there was a 3 smaller diameter clutch that might fit & be held on with the bolt through the middle. The shaft looks pretty long I'll post some pics of the motor.

I personally have not seen one...by all means that does not mean that they do not make one....but my thoughts, is there enough meat on the shaft to have it machined to fit a 1.0" clutcth, or can you just purchase an adapter sleeve for the clutch. one of our members here placed a link to an adapter for just such an application..although at the time I was not in need for that situation, the info did not stick with me...
