G44b no sparky

Ok so on my recently free argo, I've discovered the motor in it is a Chapparal G44b. This thing has probably been sitting for about 20 yrs. I got it to turn over quite nicely, and found a fair amount of moisture in the motor itself from being outside forever, but anyways I pulled the plugs and turned the motor over and as near as i can tell niether plug is getting any spark, does anyone have any ideas or diagnostic procedures I could attempt or would it just be better to ditch the old unit and swap in something fresh?

Try new plugs/wires.

You can also clean up the points. They're not too hard to get to.

If it's CDI, you may need a new unit. That may require some hunting.

hello, and nice to meet you! I actualy got started on argos, and this website with a good ol G44B!!! I also didnt have spark when i started out.... It should be a BLACK and WHITE wire, if you disconnect that, you should get spark!

If it isnt the black/ white wire, there is an alumumunm box that has 4 BIG screws in it betwene the carb and the moter, that is where you need to go to find the black/white wire if it isnt apparent outside of the box, if it is grounded, you cant run it. Just cut it, or disconect it where ever it is convenient and then grab the ohm meter and make sure it isnt grounded out somwere you cant see. The chapparal should be fully self functioning, ie, if you cut every wire that travels from the engine to the tub some place, it will run, the key wont work and you cant charge your battery.

you dont need half the stuff on there, but it is correct as far as what color wires go where. If you post a pic of the wiring harness, ill tell you which one to cut personaly.
