  • starter dis-assembly

I removed the casing off my starter. I have a new gear to replace the old one. How do I get the nose cone apart?

There should be a roll pin driven in place to hold the Bendix and plastic gear to the end of the starter shaft.

Check out this Youtube video. Different engine, but the starter gear is the same as the one on the 16hp I/C I just fixed. Drive the roll pin out, and the rest is cake. Be careful with the plastic parts when you start hammering....

Its not the same as the tip Im trying to remove from my starter.

What I circled in red is what I need to remove. That view is all one kit. I had only ordered the gear. Underneath that circled red cap is the rest of that assembly. Which has what looks to be a flat washer, preventing me from getting in under there.
