Two simple checks: Is your oil over the max mark on the dipstick? If so, lower it so that it is in the middle between low and high. Also, if you get in a lot of steep angle situations, this can cause the oil to get back into the filter.

make sure your crankcase breather is breathing properly.

Most not all small four strokes use a reed valve deal to vent the crankcase and although it might look fine it my be goofed up,had a Bigfoot with a Vangaurd that spewed oil into the breather replaced that crankcase vent reed assembly that looked okay and it was fine after that.

I had the very same problem with my 2000 bigfoot . 18 hores briggs , check that the small rubber seal on the dipstick is in fact making a seal when you push the dip stick all the way in ,there should not be any air leaks if this dosn't solve it check and make shure that your valvecover gaskets are seated properly . when i had this problem it turned out to be a valve cover gasket was leaking and it caused oil to be blowen up breather tube into aircleaner area.apparently any air getting in will over pressurise the crankcase
and cause the oil to be blown up breather hose .hope this helps

compression check time blow-by on the rings or valves aren't closing all the way.
