  • 2 stroke exhaust/jlo 440 that needs help

Well i got this 6x6 from my brother for $500 and it needs a little help as the title says. First the exhaust is just too loud and needs to be quieted down im wondering what you guys recommend about this. Ive done some searching and i think im gonna run a 2 to 1 to a muffler of some sort(maybe glasspacks?) and wrap it in exhaust wrap. Right now it has a expansion pipe and some sort of 2 stoke silencer on the tip that is out of glass packing.

Second problem is fuel. When i got it i think it was running lean sometimes, it would backfire or pop like crazy at wot. There is a vacuum pump on it and a bypass. I removed the bypass tee and put in a valve and now its running rich. I know ill need to clean the baby up and get a re-jet kit but does the vacuum pump need the bypass and can i get a carb kit at advance auto? carb is a mikuni vm, i think.

That looks like a well set up engine. Good carb and nice expansion chamber. Just keep tinkering with the fuel system and it will pay off.
A used dirt bike muffler will work good. I like the ones you can re pack.
Just wear earplugs and enjoy the power. 2 strokes are always going to be a bit noisy.

1 small fuel line could be a fuel return line that must go back to the tank and the other could be for a primer.
What is the carb model #.....you need the carb manual to understand how it works and proper connections and adjustments.
        Read this

Your carb looks like an older model.
Im sure there are members using that carb and can help with tuning and connections.......sorry i dont.

I have the carb manual and know what fuel lines are which, i need to know if a vacuum fuel pump needs a bypass/return as i took it off to play with it.

Also i think the vacuum fuel pump is shot as the engine cranks it does not pump fuel. I checked it with the hose off. Can i buy a elertric fuel pump? And how many gph?

            Yes a low pressure pump.

Make sure you have fuel at the pump inlet and your vacuum line is not blocked or cracked.
Crank the engine with the outlet line from the pump disconnected and you should have low pressure fuel flow.

Advance auto has a 4-7 psi electric pump for carb'd motors for 44 bucks

I would replace the vacuum pump with a new one.
Electric means you need a fused line and switch to run it and for safety an inertia switch to shut it off If you roll.

Well i havent installed the electric fuel pump but i got to thinking, if the pump is bad the fuel line would have no fuel in it at the carb, but it does, did some checking i do not have spark on both plugs, i measured the coil and its 2.2 ohms that seems good i think. I wont if its the kill switch or something. Which wire is that or how do i check

If you google jlo ignition points you will find a set online for under $10
