I have a 1999 Max IV with a electric start with a back up pull cord 16 hp Vanguard. How much SAE 30w oil does it take? What kind of oil filter? Where is the best places to get these from like Lowe's for instance?

About a quart and a half,,,, two quarts is too much,,, i normally fill it to the middle of the hash marks on the dip stick ( on level ground, and slowly pouring and observing). Lowes, Oreilley, Advance Auto, Tractor Supply,Napa especially etc.,,, but i found cheaper for the filters on ebay. You can go to briggs website ( Lawn Mower Parts & Small Engine Parts by Briggs & Stratton ) directly and download the owners manual for free. You can also look at the parts manual, but I don't think you can download it free. But you can get the part number you need. And I know you can print the pages you look at.It's all just nuts and bolts.Comment
