Hello all - this website rocks !!!
Need some help please with ....

Is there a tag somewhere on this engine that will tell me what it is ( a R295 or L295 ?)

The Attex I have is an ST 300 -

I'm not getting spark and also not getting any charging voltage either -

Does anyone know what I should be reading for Ohms on the coil -

I have disconnected rectifier because I suspect it's bad - plus I just want to check the yellow leads for voltage or ohms. I dont trust the rectifier yet so I took it out of the circuit for now..

I'm trying to test volts AC right off the yellow leads ( stator ? ) coming out of the flywheel - I hit the starter button and using a voltmeter - I am only getting 8 volts AC -

Also trying to test the blue wire for ohms or a voltage when engine is turning over -

I will be pulling flywheel to get at points and etc but for now I'm wondering how I can check the blue wire ( before it feeds the ignition coil ) - and the yellow stator winding leads ( before they feed the rectifier/ regulator )

any help would be greatly appreciated

If I remember right, the ST300D used an L295, but that may be wrong. There should be a tag on the back side of the fan housing near the carburetor that tells you what model it is. You will most likely find the trouble with all your ignition/charging problems once the flywheel is off. I suspect that things are not all peachy at the stator plate. I don't know offhand what the resistance should be on the individual coils, but it's a real simple system and the troubleshooting should be pretty easy.

    Good luck!

      question on the voltage ...

what is the usual voltage being generated off the charging coil ?

I see the rectifier / regulator ( mounted on the frame behind the engine towards the back of the tub)

I understand that this will convert it to DC and regulate to approx 12- 13 volts dc but..

What should I be reading on the yellow wires ( ac voltage ) when the engine is running ?

Any body know about this on the Jlo 295 engine ?? Please and thanks

Jlo R297 - what year is this ? Serial 48742

        Hello 6'ers

Tearing into the old Attex I just got getting greasy and loving it ( I got issues right Wondering what year this might be ?

Had to pull the engine to get at her better and now I will see what's up behind the flywheel - muuuuhhhaaaaaaa

        The tag on motor says R 297 - serial # 48742

Would this be considered a 295 or do I have some strange mongrel ?
