  • He shoots... Hope I scored

I just bought a 23 hp vanguard engine for only $300.00. It seems to run great. I hope it was a good deal, my question is I have a max IV that I want to put it in and what will I need as far as parts to switch it? my old engine is a 16 hp tecumseh. This vanguard is a commercial engine so I will need to change some things on the throttle. Any help would be great. Thanks.
P.S. how do you date these engines?

I think you did well on the price.....just make sure it has the 1" straight shaft. Often the cheap ones have the tapered shaft for a generator.
What good is a mfg date? Usually it's more important to know the hours on the motor.

The tecumseh is a much different motor........and your radiator wont work. Go to the auto parts store and order one for a 68 VW beetle

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Well they told me 40 hours but you know how that goes. It doesn't have a radiator. and does have a straight shaft. i just have to convert the lever throttle to a remote spring loaded one any ideas on a kit i can get?
