Well...I'm shopping for tires for my 96 Conquest. Any ideas if 2-Ply or 4-Ply would be better? Looking for low pressure, flotation type. Don't know if I'll use ARGO tires or not. BBJ

I bought a 2000 Conquest back in February/March of this year. It had the Goodyear Rawhide III 22x11x8 tires on it. Those were the premium tire that came with the machine. The ride was just awful, too hard on rough terrain. In the mud they would just sling goo and not grab traction, I got stuck allot. In the water was not much better, just painfully slow and hard to get out on soft banks. I was getting tired of being winched out of so many spots that others could just plow right on by.
I started reading and searching the forums for a better tire. I decided to go with the 24" Frontier AT-189 tire. I talked to several members and many dealers. In the end I ordered 8 tires from Adair Argo. Tim went through his supply of tires and found me the smallest diameter 24" Frontiers he had and shipped them to me. I put the smallest 2 on the front and fit and matched all 8 tires on it until they fit. They just barely fit!
I have been out in the rough with the newer tires and it is a completely different machine. I still do get a bad spot every once in a while but it is not anywhere it used to be. The increased ground clearance is very nice. The tires are much softer too and at 3psi I can climb stuff that I never could before. I have climbed over beaver dams from the downstream side and the upstream side and just chugging along. I don't have to jam hard on the gas like I used to going in the nasty muck. Swim speed has to be about double of what it used to be.. from 1mph to at least 2.5mph now. Conquests don't swim fast to begin with, but at least it will swim now.
You really cannot go wrong with the Argo tire. If you don't feel like gambling with the 24s then get the 22s. They really are a good tire, much better then the rawhide III.

2 or 4 ply Tires
Hi,
I recently bought Argo brand rubber tracks for my 97 Conquest. The tires on my machine were Runamuks and these tires are 2ply. The weight of the tracks and the twisting of the tracks over the tires made the tires collapse within the tracks. This is caused by no support in the side walls. I had to purchase new tires any way so I purchased to new Argo brand 4ply paddle tire. I have had no problem with these tires collapsing in the rubber tracks. There is no issue with the runamuks on plastic tracks. You cannot run tracks on the Rawhide 111 tires as they will not fit over the tracks. Just a little info for you if you are going to purchase rubber tracks.
