• HELP! 24" AT189 Frontier tire on 97 Conquest

I know this subject has been beat to the bone on here but here in my issue:

There are 2 75.5" diam left side tires and 2 76.5" diam left side tires
with
3 75" diam and 1 75.25" diam right side tires available.

Does this fit?? He said normally people are looking for <74" for the Conquest. Will these particular tires fit? I am buying a set before Buscoe and I def do not want to spend nearly $1600 on a set that can't mount! (I also don't want to shave tread or bend the tub)

Thanks!

Those will not fit w/o shaving down the treads like Plotthound did to his. You need to have <74" for the front pair, <75" for the second pair. The last two pair don't really matter. The big problem is that the front 2 pairs are closer together then the other tires.

When mounting tires, the 2 smallest are on the front axles, then next larger, then next larger, and last are the 2 biggest.

Dang Dan, thanks for ruining my day.

No really, this is the kind of information I was looking for. It's a little heartbreaking (understatement) as these are the only 24" AT189's I can find! I have a supplier here in NC that is extremely helpful but he only has 2 24" AT189's, he can have more ordered but not in time for Busco. (Oct 12-14)

The tires mentioned above are from adairargosales, he already had the diam of all of his tires measured. (Suppose there are a lot of people putting these things on Conquest) Unfortunately the sizes above are the best he can do...

SO

What the hell? lol

Do I buy 22" AT189's? I naturally feel like a 24" tire would be superior to a 22". Swimming is a must, I am in the water all the time. This just really sucks, I've saved the $1600 necessary to get the tires/wheels I need but now I can't find them! I'm ready to pull the trigger on a set of wheels/tires I just need to know what the heck to buy.

Pull the trigger on the 22's? Is there a 23" alternative that swims? Or another distributor of the AT189's that may have smaller diam tires?

Help!

Thanks!

The big deference is the tire size. I think they will both swim the same. They both have the same pattern, just 1 gives more ground clearance. Don't expect water speed records with a conquest, no matter what tire you use. The body design is at fault.

If you ever think about using tracks; like the factory Argo or Adair, then the 22" AT-189 are the best choice.

What Pressure are you measuring those tire Circumferances? I measure mine and run them at 3.5psi.

If you have already saved the money for the tires, don't let the upcoming ride rush you into buying something else. There will be more rides. Get the 24" tires. You will be much happier with the additional ground clearance.

Ground clearance is paramount, I bottom out all the time in mud and muck.

I just called, he was measuring at anywhere between 3-5 PSI.

This is good advice. You're right, I don't need to let the ride rush me into buying something less capable. Additional ground clearance would make my machine SO much more capable. On a side note, I ran across one of your pictures with some Vampires on an Avenger. Those tires made that machine look ridiculous. They looked huge, I imagine they wouldn't fit on the Conquest, huh?

I am going to keep looking. If there was a good alternative in 23" I would be all ears. Swimming is a must, it doesn't have to swim 3-4MPH but they must absolutely propel me forward, I cannot just sit and churn up water.

Thanks for everyone's advice.

You're a good portion of the way to a set of Adair Tracks, sounds like you might want to consider saving a bit more. Don't get me wrong, the 24" Frontiers are an awesome option, they swim, and they do increase clearance a bit. But so do the tracks.
I don't know of any tire that I would compare to the Frontier as far as swimming and "fit". If you do come across another tire in 23" that is comparable, please let us know (It is hard to find the smaller 24" Frontier tires now)
Good luck

Mike is right, don't let the ride force a decision on you. Come ride, have fun, and meet everybody. RD made a good point, you are half way to a set of Adair tracks. Tracks with 22" tires will give you the same ground clearance as the 24" tires. Tracks swim, and they mud really good. So come out to the ride as you are now. I'll be there with my conquest. I bet there will be 1 machine with tracks.

Last ride I took the family out in our conquest with the 22" Rawhide3 tires, we got stuck a few times. A winch and ride buddy is all you need.

You know another way to approach this might be to look for a couple of really large 22" argo tires...I've seen the 24's range any where from 72.5" up to 79.5" in actual circumference ....I have also seen 22" argo tires that are actually larger than the 24's...might be simpler to match a couple of large 22's into the mix ???

Just a thought

BTW...ask Mike to check all the 24's that are on all of the new machines he has in inventory...probably several small ones in there also

22" Carlisle AT189 Frontier Tire

I sincerely appreciate everyone's help that has PM'd, responded to threads, and called me on the phone. After mulling the subject over in my head every waking hour, doing tireless research on alternatives, and banging my head into the wall, I've reached a decision.

22" "Frontier" Carlisle AT189's it is.

I could hold out for the smaller diam 24" tires but I know myself pretty well, and odds are the money I've saved will be gone before the tires are available.

I spoke to Mike at adairargosales and placed the order.

I do have to mention two other distributors who went out of their way to help. Ken at Bost Argo and Centaur Sales and Service in Rockwell, NC is a southern gentleman, friendly and extremely experienced. Also, Fritz with argoadventure.com was extremely helpful.

I will most likely buy parts from any of the three in the future, but adairargosales was the most competitive for tires.

I will most definitely post pictures when they arrive. They will ship tomorrow from Iowa towards NC. I was a little disappointed in settling for the 22" but I am still convinced it will beat the brakes off of my no-tread runasucks.

Glad you made a decision. I would't throw those old tires out. You should sell them are give them away on here depending on how bad they are. I am sure someone out there needs a few spare runamuks.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

Glad you ordered you some tires. I hope you asked Mike to go through his selection and find the larger 22" he had, somewhere like a 70" circumference. Those would be perfect. I agree with Drew, keep the older tires.. just in case another member might need them or for a spare. And if you might want another runamuk, I have 6 old I can give you
