  • Alternatives to a $175.00 tire?

I'll start the repair / resto to my 1985 I/C this winter. The old runamucks are weather checked and gone.

I know the AT189's are awesome, but after calling the dealership, I'm having a hard time accepting the price tag of $175.00 a piece. I offered a "group buy" of 32 tires, and he gave the "I sell them for what Argo sells them to me line" and wouldn't budge on the price at all.

So, after hours of searching 6x6 world on the subject of tires, anyone got any info on a tire that may be new to the marketplace they are running and have not discussed yet?

Or heck, any updates on the performance of what you're running that's not Argo branded?

I just can't pull the trigger on a $175.00 tire. Especially having to buy 8 of them.

    Thanks!

    Ken

I have the same machine and after doing lots of homework settled on Carlisle Strykers.
They cost me about $70.00 each and work pretty good except in water. Since I mount a small outboard on the Argo, thats not a problem for me.

Tires, unfortunate for us,this is one item that is very difficult fabricate/improvise. And "they" know this.($$$). Also, unless someone knows something that I don't,there is NOT a very good selection of AATV tires on the market.Lots of quad tires but no "ribbed" tires like the old runamuks that ride nice, swim great and mud pretty good too.

22" is the largest tire that will fit on that machine.

Where did you get the 27" Vampires? Are they the 27x12x12 size?

I keep hoping there's a tire I've overlooked and this thread might bring it to light.

I've almost conceeded to going the any tire and use the outboard route, but that's not really the direction I want to go.

Would the 12" width work on an I/C?

                      I bought the 27"x12"x12" from 4WD.com. Looks like they sell 22" x 12.5" x 12" for $83.
                      Thanks,

The only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is seeing a close up picture of the tread depth with something for a reference or a description of what the tread depth is. Carlisle's website doesn't say or I'm overlooking it.

I don't want to order, have them shipped in and get buyer's remorse when I see them in person.

                        I'm also not finding a Carlisle chevron in 22 x 12 - 8 on their website.

The local ATV shop says they've been getting a lot of Argo owner's in buying ITP mudlites. In the field, I've haven't seen anyone running them in person or talked to anyone in person about them.

The only problem with buying the ITP Mudlites is they don't swim. I looked at those too when I was looking for new tires for my 2000 Conquest. I ended up getting the smallest 24" Frontier AT-189 Argo tires. It still hurt the wallet.

I've tried ITP Mudlites and they do not swim even the least bit. If anything it seemed like they anchored the machine in place, so I would stay away from them if you need any amount of forward motion in the water.

I would love to find out what it takes to distribute the AT189 for Carlisle because MSRP is ridiculous!

Just went through weeks of phone calls and internet searches and head banging for the same reason. We are limited to 22" tires with our 8" wheel. (Except for the 24" AT189 - but that tire comes with a caveat for our smaller Conquests) Seems to be more selection with a 12" wheel but finding an appropriate wheel that size is another story. After a week long headache I bit the bullet and bought a set of the 22" AT189 Argo tires. Most of everything else you find will either: not swim / not skid / walk off the rim / ride rough / etc. The Argo tire is built for our machines.
