Here is an alternative to the mudlites 25x12-9 Super Light Tire And no, they don't swim well. They do ride great though.

I'm running them on my bigfoot, and the key to swimming is not to give it any throttle. They only swim at real low speed.

They do offer a 22x11-8 for $59 at that website.

Just went through weeks of phone calls and internet searches and head banging for the same reason. We are limited to 22" tires with our 8" wheel. (Except for the 24" AT189 - but that tire comes with a caveat for our smaller Conquests) Seems to be more selection with a 12" wheel but finding an appropriate wheel that size is another story. After a week long headache I bit the bullet and bought a set of the 22" AT189 Argo tires. Most of everything else you find will either: not swim / not skid / walk off the rim / ride rough / etc. The Argo tire is built for our machines.
From all my chats with dealers and others.. The reason the Argo tire is so expensive is that ODG contracted Carlisle to produce the tire for ODG only. Because of the contract, these tires will never be in the Carlisle catalog for consumers or tire dealers. These tires are being produced in smaller runs then normally made by Carlisle. Smaller runs increase production costs.. ie Materials, molds, machining tooling, etc..

The clearance between the tub and top of the tire with 20's on it now says I'm not going to be able to go beyond 22's.

I figure I'll learn to deal with a not so great swimming tire.

The last few years out hunting in friends Argos, I can't recall a situation where we were truly swimming. River crossing we were either on the bottom or if the crossing was deeper, we were hooked up with a tow line or winch.

Those are Carlisles, but I think they're 22x11.00-8 size. What are you looking for in a Chevron tire, Joe? The Carlisles are great for competition, but ride rough. Nankang made some of the same style with a softer compound that rode much easier but weren't much good for racing. Unfortunately, they are no longer produced either.

I'm looking for something similar to the runamuks. The Carlisle AT 101's,to me,appear to be quite similar to the Goodyear Rawhide Terra Tire, very similar to what I just took off of my Attex. These have the "bar" type lugs that are quite agressive, also, the lugs are "staggered" along the centerline of the tire. They are also 4 ply const. so I'm thinking that in a 21/22" dia on an 8" wheel, like you said, makes for a rough ride. The tires in the two pic's I posted earlier (is the Attex yours?) appear to have much thinner, shallower "lugs" that look to come togather in the center of the tire, like a "one pc" lug from side to side.I'm also assuming they are of two ply const. and will offer a much nicer ride, especially on the lighter machines.

Found this pic I had of Fischer's racer, the rear tire apears to be the rawhide/Carlisle AT 101,where as the mid and front tires are what I'm talking about.

I bought some Kenda Dirt Dog tires 22-11-8 a couple years ago for $55 a tire at Royal distributing (ontario do not know where you are). They have worked well for what I need.

Thought adding a pic would put this thread back on the radar, lol. So, Don,here is a good pic of the tires I'm talking about, the front and mid,the rear looks like the at 101.

Yup, those look like Carlisle Chevrons as well, except for the back one. They really don't ride that soft, but they are an easier ride than the first Rawhides. The early Carlisles were a softer compound and rode better but it's hard to find any of those that aren't worn out or cracked up. I like the Nankang Chevron and the Rawhide IIIs for all-around ride. The IIIs are better in the mud, but those, too, are discontinued.

The expensive shoes you are trying to avoid came in today.

They look aggressive as hell, I'm excited.

In the end, I think it just depends on whether you want it to propel you across a decent amount of water. If mine rarely got wet I would have probably bought those swamp fox tires or some variation. Keep us updated on what you buy!
