  • Super track pin removal

Need some help from the experts. I bought a response, 96, for $2500. It has the super tracks on it and in bad need of the pins being replaced. I pulled the set screw on the collar and tried to get the pin removed with no luck. I used a punch and a hammer and only got it to move about 1/16". I hit the track hinge with PB Blaster hoping to free it up a little. Thoughts? I was thinking about hitting it with a small air hammer but worried about damaging the track.

I thought the pins would be easier to remove. Makes me wish I has the Adair tracks. But, I can't afford those and want to take care of these. They aren't in bad shape.

Thanks for the Help in advance.

once you get the pin out examine it for wear. if they aren't too bad remove one per track and make a master pin. I just did this, get the rod at the depot cut long enough to bend a hook at one end to pull easy and have enough at the other end to thread for a washer and nylock nut. I also think the rusted up set screws and collars aren't a bad result as it prevents track pins from slipping out especially on the inside of track and cause possible damage to tub. the rust stinks if your tracks are old and the pins have excessive wear and need to replace all the pins. my tracks are in very good shape for used and had little wear but i do know the previous owner used them in water quite often. most of my set screws are rusted and stuck in place and i got lucky finding one per track that came out with only some force. the pins showed rust but no wear from the track hinges. i made my master pins out of stainless steel rod, don't have to deal with the rusted collars for a while. do a site search for pics from other members who did the same.
