  • New K-rims for me !

I just received my new K-rims from Recreatives. I had some problems with the beads breaking loose on my Max IV and I finally decided to do something about it.
I'm including some pictures. The nice shiny black one is the new one. The bead lock is much more pronounced than the old one and also the rim holds a larger diameter on the back side. The problem with the originals was the lack of large bead to hold the tires and once the tire moved in a little bit, it fell off the lip and lost air immediately. These tires seated with a nice loud pop and I can just tell how much better the beads will stay seated. Also I like the shiny powder coat.

Also I think I remember why RI stopped using the Titans was the lack of rim protection offered by the tire. One of the pictures shows how much the rim sticks out past the tires. Right now I'm running 3 psi in them. I hope to drop it down to 2 PSI or less. I'll have to put them to the test and see how low I can go.

I've been using the Harbor Freight manual tire machine for the past couple years and I love it. I think I paid $39 for it on sale.

I wish I would have washed the tires and rims before I started because now my work shop has a dirt floor!

I decided to put my front tires on backwards to see if it helps climbing out of holes. Has anyone had any experience with this experiment? Please save me some time and effort by letting me know what works and what doesn't.

Do you mind if I ask how much the new rims were?

That's sweet. The argo 9" wheels I bought years ago, the cheesy bead losing Bigfoot wheels, were around $85 each. Junk.

Matt's 9" beadlock argo wheels are also $50.

Lance, I think that's a good idea. when we were at Gulches, Jeff (Greasemonkey) was talking about doing that. I think as long as it doesn't eliminate your water speed it should really help out. Let us know how well it works.

              liflod ,

I am running 25 " Gators on the front of my Max IV ( V facing foward ) This gives me the best traction for climbing up muddy creek banks and through the mud .
This works well for me .

I think the fact that I won't have to run 5psi to keep the tires on the rims will help out greatly. I'll test them out next weekend and see how they do.

lance ive tryed the whole turning the front tires around thing it didnt make mutch differance for me other than a noticable loss of water speed. i origionaly did it to help climing out of the water or mud pits and creek banks. since then ive turned them back around.
they dont call me mad because im angry!!!!! im just a little crazy thats all!!!!

Never know till you try, although I'm sure somebody has already done it. Am trying one more tire stagger on mine. I've done <<<< and >>>> and <<>>. And now I'm trying <><>

That would leave >><< which I never thought of till just now

Roger, your Argo may be able to fly if you turn them like that

                        LOL

I been thinking (front first) ><>, so middle is backwards. Seems at first part of the climb the weight goes to the rear and then the fronts get airborn over the top of hill but then it gets stuck there alot. So Im thinking the middles need to bite more. The rears already would have alot because of the weight and front is in air so that leaves the middle. But I still need to experiment too.

I run two Vampires in front with the V's forward. As can be expected they pull really, really well coming out of the water or anywhere else! Those are the same rims that I run and you can run the pressure low and you will not break a bead. I lost air once when I hit a stump going about 15 mph, but other than that they will stand up to just about as much abuse as you can give them, and wonder why you are not dishing out more.

I run my 26" tires at 1/2lb. and have no problems with the bead. and the ride is much better

Hey Lance, Good news about the new rims, they will get the ultimate test soon! I have been running my rawhide 22s in the traction position for a couple of years now. The bite is certainly better in the mud, and since I rarely swim it is not an issue. I run my center tires flat, and just a quick spurt of air in the corners, about one pound. Works for me!!
