Adair Tracks on an Attex

It seems like the Adair tracks are the way to go if you are looking at tracks. Just wondering if anyone has put the rubber belted tracks on an Attex? Or if this is possible with the different wheelbase compared to other machines.

The forum member Noel Woods has a Argo Frontier with Adair tracks , a Super Swamp Fox with Adair tracks, and a Max II with the factory rubber track kit on it. He took his Max II with the factory rubber track kit on it into the muddy swamp and some of the mud holes we like to test our machines in ,and the rubber tracks soon glazed over with mud so bad that he ended up taking his Max II back home. He told me this was a HUGE dissappointment after running his Argo and Super Swamp Fox with the Adair tracks.

I would think you could run a set of Max II rubber tracks on an Attex with axle extensions if it was not a factory tracked machine. You might need to fabricate bearing extensions and a bearing support rail like used an Max vehicles to support the axles given the extra load from the tension and weight of the rubber tracks. My Max IV is a factory tracked machine and I ran the factory tracks once in the mud and was very disappointed/stuck with them and took them off. I think to set up a Max with factory rubber tracks runs close to 4K and they do not swim at all. I think Adair sells the track kit with light weight aluminum wheels, tracks and tires that would not need the bearing support hardware. I paid under 3K for mine.

Yes the rubber belted Adair tracks can be made for any length wheelbase including an older Attex...the challenge would be picking the correct tire that would give the right height for the fenders and the right profile to fit the inside of the track ...the Adair Max II track kit that kghills is talking about doesn't use rubber belting but is constructed with a more compact metal pin and shackle as the inner fender clearance on a Max II is very limited....

Yes, an early design as my machine has longer axles due to it being a factory tracked version. Differece being I have wheels with less offset.

You will probably want to make the axles the stock Attex length and just drill another set of holes in the hubs farther toward the back side of them. This way you can slide the hubs in when you're not running tracks and have the machine in stock form and then when you run tracks, you simply take the bolt out, slide the hubs out and put the bolt through the other hole that you drilled farther toward the backside of the hub, thus pushing them out (about 2.5" I believe) so you will be able to clear the tracks. This is how Attex set up most of their their factory tracked machines.

If you measure from the body to the face where the adapter plate mounts it is 10 inches. I have two holes 90 degrees apart on my outer axle sleeve that allow me to move the axles in one inch and when I have the Adair tracks on (which will be always) I have it set so I have 9 inches of distance between the body and axle flange where the adapter plate mounts. I think Tim said my wheels are 1 inch offset.
