Max IV Rawhide III Alternatives

I have been reading through posts about tires for my 1998 max iv and I figured i would hop on here ... here is the low down.

I just bought my max iv from a friend who broke the axle 2 yrs ago and has had it sitting. it has Goodyear rawhide III's 22x11x8... one of the rims is missing because he left it in the woods when the axle broke and never went back for it..

I have ordered all the new parts and they arrived today. I can't find a replacement rawhide III anywhere as everyone knows and the remaining 5 have tread left but won't all hold air so I know I will have to replace all 6 tires eventually I am really wanting to see how reliable it is after I make the repairs before I spend the $$$$ on new tires. btw I bought 6 tubes for now

what does everyone suggest?
will it be a big problem to run it a few weeks with one different tire? and what tires should I go with?

I talked to richards relics and they have 25x11x9 rawhide III's but that means 6 new rims too. will these bolt on and work good?
what do you guys think about greenball gators 22x11x8? or Greenball dirt devils ( il like that these are 6 ply)
or the maxxis sur trak 22x11x8 that recreatives uses now? i would love to buy one used rawhide III from someone if possible

First off, NEVER EVER deal with Richard Clark/Route6x6. Many new members in the 6x6 community have been burned by him. He sells inferior quality parts, his prices are rediculously high, his shipping and "handling" charges are also crazy high, and his customer service is horrible. And if he sends you the wrong part, you're out of luck because he has your money and that's it. NEVER deal with him......don't be one of those people that get burned by him and leave the hobby of 6 wheelers with no money left in your pocket.

If you want all new 25" tires and rims go through an Argo deal like AdairArgo. I hear Tim is a good guy to deal with. If you're going to stick with the 8" rims there are some options out there for you. The Max will be a very reliable machine once you do some repairs and basic maintenance. If you want 21" tires, you can go with these for about $400. These tires swim fast, are decent in the mud, and they're what Recreatives puts on their new Maxes from the factory.

Carlisle - AT 101 Chevron

If you want 22's, there are some options out there. Recreatives uses a Maxxis tire. There's the Cheng Shin Jackal C868 and that kind of looks like the Rawhide III. If you do a search of the site and type in 22x11x8 you'll see some other options out there for you. Good luck with it.

Look for a thread called big tires that swim. it has some good options. also do a few searches for the rawhide III, I know I saw some for sale somewhere not to long ago.

Do you think those 21" carlisles would be better than a 22s? I was thinking about going bigger if anything if the 18hp briggs can handle it.

as far as the rawhide III's I have searched everywhere and im coming up empty.... If i could just find one of those I would be fine for a while.

The 22's are better than the 21's. The 18HP Briggs is a great engine and it'll handle tires up to 26" just fine. Try putting a wanted ad for a single Rawhide III here on the site.

have to say i'm pretty impressed with the 18 briggs.... we rebuilt the carb drained the varnish (formerly known as gas) from the tank, jumped the solenoid w/ a screwdriver and it runs GREAT..... reminds me a of a little version of my harley... lol

I am glad to hear that it should be able to handle some bigger tires....
