  • Argo 8x8 response Replacement tires

I just recently purchased a 97 response 8x8 and the tires are well worn. They appear to be the original set. I wanted everyones input on what tires , size and brand to get, without just breaking the bank. There is a lot of mud here in Mississippi so I need it to perform well but would also like it to still be able to swim ok , aka swim backwards and forewards.

I would welcome any input as this is my first argo and I am hooked on the machine. Cant wait to take it out in the water this weekend to my duck hole even with the worn tires.

I know the 24 Argo tires are a little more expensive but they will work well on your machine. They look just like the AT 189 on the Avenger but not quiet as expensive and have both of the abilities you are asking for. They make this tire in 25 inch, 24 inch and 22 inch now. They remind me of runamucks on steroids. Hope this helps

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

"runamucks on steroids."good one Lewis. It's interesting they "went back" to this tread design.isn't it. I love my old runamuks, not the best mega-mudders out there but the ride and water performance,in my opinion, are unequaled. Those AT-189's certainly turn it up a notch!

The 22" Argo tire is really your best and only option. It swims great and rides even better. The only downfall is the fact they are about $145 each. All tires are expensive now days and it's a small market for amphib tires.

Your right, Carlisle is the manufacturer of these tires(my company makes the tire cord for Carlisle, no discount) and Argo has a exclusive on them. This is a shame, you can only get them from Argo so they set the price. I have a set for the Crush now and they will do great for the Arizona ride.

I will post up a picture of the tire mounted on a 8 inch rim so you can see one up close.

22's would be the correct size for the machine, I think it was Dan who had the 24's on his Conquest at Busco and said the front 4 rubbed slightly. Lewis is on the right tract by mounting them on 8's instead 7's the 24's should be just right and give better clearance that all the 22 inch machines need also a little more top end speed.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
            Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Well I took the Argo out for the first time duck hunting. Much better than walking in carrying all my gear. Even had it out for a swim. It reiterated the need for new tires as it had no reverse and turning was barely there. Also found out the argos brakes need adjusted. It's not tracking straight causing me to apply the left brake. This made me notice that the left brake had alot of play. Are the brake pads easy to change and adjust?

Yeah, I have the 24" Frontier AT-189s on my Conquest 8x8. And when it gets going fast the tires will start to rub. But when going slow.. man they are awesome.

Here are the 22's mounted on rims with 4 psi compared to the 21's.

The 22" tires look good. What should a set of 8 of these tires run. My local Argo dealer/ Polaris dealer always seems to be priced high on his products?

                      Lewis,

                      Is that an aluminum wheel?

What dimensions and where did you get it?

I went to my local dealer to price out some tires and he showed me a set of Kenda 22x10x8 Snow mad tires that he had in stock. A guy bought them for his argo then sold them back to the dealer as it wasnt what he wanted. The tires were never actually mounted on his machine. Has anyone ever run these tires in mud and water? I am worried that being 2 ply may result in tires being punctured to easily.

They won't swim.. I know I heard someone here talking about them and how bad they are for our use.
