  • Knobbies on 6x6

Will knobies work in water at all? I'm on a budget for tires I was thinking of putting knobbies on the 6x6 (Terra Tiger) or would it be best to go with all chevrons? I want it to paddle through water and not just spin. Maybe have chevrons on the outside two axles and knobbies in the middle? What do you suggest?

    chevrons

Knobs do not swim and put stress on expensive and some times hard to find parts axels bearings flanges etc. when you turn

Why do we waste tax money on bridges and roads when we can all just drive AATVs

Robio is absolutely correct. Knobbies on an amphib are absolutely useless, plus they don't allow the machine to skid steer properly.

These chevrons are pretty cheap, but have gone up like $5 in price in past year.
If your on a budget lawnmower type tires or golf cart tires would be better then knobbies on your machine but still wont swim.

              Good tire deal!!!

This is where i got my tires, they are made by kenda, 21x11x8 ($36.43 each) ($9.95 shipping for all 6) for 6 shipped to your door is $249.00. Not sure of the preformance yet but they are exctly like the power trac II which have good reviews. Hope this helps!!!

That probably one of the best tire deals that I have seen. Those have almost the same exact tread pattern as the 21" Goodyear Rawhides. They offer good traction, and they are one of the top tires for water performance.

By the way, prettynifty, how is the Sears Sportster restoration going?

Those look like great tires for the money, nifty. If they ride like the Powertracs, keep 'em soft!

Just for the record, lots of racers used knobbies because of their low rolling resistance quality. I'm assuming the same can be said for the garden tractor tires I've seen on some of the old racers. I can't think of a good reason to have knobby tread on a trail machine, unless you really want to tear up someone's yard! As for me, two of the machines I bought in the last few years have had knobbies on them, and I ended up giving the tires away.

                      Restoration!

It is going wonderful, I spent about 5 straight hours sand blasting this last weekend and the frame is primed, no re-inforcing is needed, all new bearings, chains, idlers, and seals and ll new drive sprockets are in the mail. The tranny got a good de-greasing and I am working on a deal on a 32 HP generac engine(40 hrs on it) that I think I am going to get a steal on. I will get some pics up soon!!

Where do I get wheels? I have two 4 on 4 bolt circle (4 lug) but can't find the wheels anywhere.

Golf cart wheels would work perfectly. They are 8" and 4 lug. They are very cheap too......sometimes golf courses practically give them away with old bald golf cart tires on them.

Prettynifty, it sounds like you are going to have the best Sears Sportster out there when you are done! That restoration sure is going fast. Thanks for the update and keep up the good work.
