  • No go in snow

I bought a Max 4 with tracks, reckoned I had the ultimate all weather/terrain unit, wrong! I live in a N.Y. snobelt area and while in deeper snow it builds up under the belly pan and all I do is spin the tracks. My brother-in-law,(a snowmobiler),says its because the factory tracks dont have cleats.Does anyone make aftermarket cleat assy?Cant afford a new set of tracks!

Are your tracks plastic or rubber?
    Arge has cleats here.

you could bolt or rivet some cleats on.

Factory rubber tracks will have some cleat 3/8" if older and 3/4" if newer. There is an acquired skill to driving in the snow. Do not spin,if it starts to spin back off until it can climb up on the snow. Freshly fallen deep snow can be a challenge until it gets a day or so to settle. With factory rubber tracks you want to stay on top of the snow, once it spins it just digs a hole and sets down in it. Like everything else there are little tricks to it but it willl work.

I have plastic 18 inch wide tracks on an eight wheel argo. I cut some rubber belting and bolted it onto the tracks. They lay flat when on a hard trail and the stick up when they start to spin. It goes good. It is by no means perfect but I can go where I couldn't go before. I'll get some pictures when I get home this weekend.

I installed these on an argo conquest and they work good. They run flat on hard pack but they act like paddles when the track starts to slip.

Snow will plow up in the front, but as mentioned, spinning the tracks is bad. You may have to gently go back and forth until you can get up to speed and float on top. They will do it, I've had mine in 3 feet of soft snow, no sweat.

I have the same problem with my old conquest.I don't think cleats are going to help in deep snow. How wide are your tracks.
