  • Adair tracks update

Just FYI Adair Argo Sales now makes the rubber belted 14.5" tracks to go over 25x12x9tires. I was wanting their 14.5" set up for my soon to be 2011 750 HDI but was going to have to buy new tires and wheels (24x10x8's) to use them. I called and talked with Tim yesterday and he informed me they now make the above tracks to go over 25x12x9's. That made my day because that means a big savings for myself and others wanting to run Adair's 14.5" tracks on their 25x12x9's. The tracks are not listed on their website yet but I assume they soon will be.

I would be interested on knowing how these tracks fair up here. I see plenty of pudding like mud videos but not to many in the swamps

        You mean like this?

Doug has a lot of videos of his machine with Adair tracks in his swamp.

I like the look of the belted and shackle tracks. They look really tough with the thicker crossers. They've gotta be at least an inch thick with a pretty tall cleat the way they're cut. I'm still not sure if they're HDPE or UHMW, as I've heard both terms used.

hi BUZZ...just to give answer to your qustions.....

the adair grouser material is a custom blend of reprocessed UHMW which we buy from a mill that adds a little higher than normal amount of carbon (for UV stability in outdoor applications) and blends it with other recycled plastic (environmentally responsible, less expensive, and slightly more rigid) for us

the thickness of each grouser on our older and more common track designs (and also our current 18.5", 21", and 23" snow tracks) that are built with through hardened chain is 1" (thick) and lug height is about 1.25" tall at the center of the tire, depending on the particular tire and application (25" tire applications typically lack fender clearance and so lug height is slightly less, and in a few other applications we have designed it to be slightly more)

the newer generation narrow (14.5") wide designs that are built with half of an inch thick 4 ply rubber belting have individual grousers that are machined out of 1.5" thick material....the heavy duty metal shackle track designs (for machines like the MAX II and also some very large and heavy applications or abusive applications) also are 1.5" thick

you have probably heard other speak of older designs that were build from different materials....we have built about a dozen different steel cleat track designs including the new FAT TRACKS (dual tire / single track), and we have tested many different types of plastic over the past 6 years...there are a few of the older track designs that were built from PVC, ABS, and HDPE but were built in very limited quantity for and during initial testing purposes

            take care

Thanks for the info Tim. I've had people ask me, but I wasn't sure. Wow, 1.5" UHMW...that's gotta be super tough. A guy would play hell trying to make those in the garage. Sounds like a CNC router job!

Lol...your very perceptive, and that's a very intelegent observation...all thickness of UHMW are very strong and abrasion resistant and are typically regarded as unbreakable...a similar application are modern snowmobile skis which survive an amazing amount of flexing and abuse...we were always limited to 1" thicknesses in the past due to the weight of the sheets and particular tool designs...most companies that do custom machining seem to be limited to safe lifting weights of the sheet material and so 1" seemed to always be our limit... This last year we got a new CNC milling table that is much larger and that has increased our capabilities to the point that 1.5" is no longer a problem but it is still very hard on bits and is not an easy material to cut through especially at this thickness

Great talking to you, and thank you for the kind words...

                :-). Tim

I've seen the new track on MUDBUG3's machine and its quite impressive. It turns even better than the previous tracks that performed very well. The additional grouser height gives even more bite and claws its way over obstacles that the older track will not. Great job on the design Tim.

Talked with Mike at Adair Argo yesterday, he says Tim is working on a winter kit to accompany the 14.5" wide tracks. This would save a guy money by not buying an additional wider winter track set up like the Argo 18" rubber tracks or the 20" Bolduc tracks. I would imagine this kit will look something like the winter kit beaver dam argo sells. A very inexpensive but efficient way to widen your tracks.

Does anyone have any close up pictures of the new Adair shackle track??? Really am curious to see this setup.
                      Thanks

Very nice looking track. Am I correct in seeing that the 14.5" rubber-belted track is for the 22 or 24x10x8 tire? The 25x12x9 tire running this rubber belted track (I'm guessing) is 2" wider, or in the neighborhood of 16.5" w/o the winter kit?

                              hi Buzz,

the 14.5" pro series adair track is made for 10", 11", and 12" wide tires and all three have the same footprint width of 14.5" without the winter kits...hope this helps
