  • Noise with tracks

Installed my adair tracks, have a new 650hd, new tracks, I have a clunk from my tracks while driving even on flat ground, is not a consistant noise, is this normal?

Any idea where its coming from?, you said the tracks, but do you mean it sounds like the tracks are hitting something. Are these the Chained Version of Adair Tracks? How wide? Are you running Axle extensions? Have you checked your Outer Axle Bearings?
My first thought is the track slapping up against the Tub/Fender. Mine do that, even on seemingly flat ground sometimes.
Another thought is tire pressures/circumferance causing mild chain windup, maybe a chain tensioner slapping the floor pan
Need a little more info, I'm just guessing here

14.5 wide tracks, no extensions, new rubber belted tracks, running 5 lbs in tires, you may be right think tracks hitting tub I will try to run 6 lbs in tires to see if this helps. Thanks for the help.

        Nice Tracks, eh?
I really like mine, but have not had much of a chance to run them in the Summer time yet.
I don't think you will completely get away from the odd "thump", but it sure is strange how it can happen on seemingly level ground sometimes.
The tracks also make a real rumbling sound when driving, I believe it's a combo of track Grousers hitting the ground, and tires riding over the large lug grousers. I've been told a few times that my machine doesn't even sound like an Argo.
I would recomend that you check for "track sag", under your center wheels (Machine jacked off ground). Try shooting for 1.5-2" sag. If you just pump up the tires, you might get the tracks too tight, causing problems with bearings, axle flanges, ect.
I was running my Supertracks tight on one late winter trip, and ended up breaking a flange off one front axle. I ended up having to leave my Argo sitting on that trail for about 6 weeks before I could get back to fix it. I rode back with my quad (early Spring) and some parts, fixed the Argo, then had to leave the quad there for another 2-3 Months before a friend could retrieve it for me (Mid Summer). Only problem was that he didn't haul/drive it out for me, he took it about 6 miles further into the bush. I ended up finally getting that quad home in the middle of the next winter, sometime around January.

I have some experience as well with this occurrence. It is inconsistent, moves from one side to the other then for a period of time will disappear. It is more prevalent in going that there is a little spinning. I believe it to be related to chain wind up. Though not sure. I always remove my front drive chain. Go figure.

hello everyone. Eldon i am new to this game i bought a hoot and put plastic tracks on it goes great in deep snow but after driving for about 30 min it started to to make a clunk under heavy load so i backed off and just took it easy no more clunk when i looked at chains they were super tight on top and sagging down on bottom. has anyone else tried taking one set of chains off each side to prevent chain windup. is it going to cause damage?

Just keep in mind that your chains will always be tight in one direction and slack in the other. As one sprocket turns, it moves the chain, tightening it, until the next sprocket turns. This is why you have to adjust your chains with the tires off the ground or at least in neutral while turning the wheels towards each other and then away from each other.

I tried taking off the chains to the back wheels on a conquest with supertracks. Got stuck going uphill as the mass of the machine unloads the tracks at the front and then the remaining driven tires just spin inside the tracks.

I tried removing the front chains on my conquest while in Adair Pro Tracks. Same result as John, would work in most areas but spins out in the tracks under load.
