  • 23" Tires for Conquest???? What Rims????

I saw a DURO tire 23x10.5-12 that interested me (HF255). It is a bar-lug (offset chevron) tire and would get more ground clearance without the very close fit of the 24" ARGO tires. I suspect it would swim well, but is a bit heavy at 26 lbs. per tire. The quibble is that it requires a 12" rim.

Does anyone know if there is an ARGO rim that fits the Conquest bolt pattern with a 12" diameter? Are there any backspacing issues to be concerned with? Just wondering if anyone has tried this.

I would avoid doing that. The only 12" rims that would work are from RI (max maker) and they are about $80 each. The Argo 8" rim is actually a 8x7 and has zero backspace so figure about 3.5" from center of rim to edge. the 12" is 0.5 backspace so figure about 5.5" from center of rim to edge. You would need to add wheel spacers to push the rims out a minimum 2" to maintain space between tires and body. Also add in the weight of the 12" rims vs the 8" rims.

I have a 2000 Conquest and I put 24" Argo tires and rims on mine. The front tires are extremely close and at high speeds the tires do touch. I plan to order some 8x8 rims from RI and see if the wider rims drop the tire centers in a bit closer. This was suggested to me by ArgoJim at the recent Busco ride.

Dan makes some very valid points, but forgot to mention that duros don't swim. The other huge issue is going to be ride comfort. With that little of sidewall you are going to feel every bump, rut, and dimple on the trail on each tire that rolls over it.

Don't go that route, just like Dan and Drew said. The 23x10.50x12 tire is for garden tractors and equipment, not for AATVs. They'll ride HORRIBLE and not swim for you. There was a brief period when the Max II, Max IV, standard Swamp Fox, and a very small number of other vintage AATVs that ran these and they didn't work well at all, so that's why you don't see them used by manufacturers or as an aftermarket addition on an AATV now a days. Save yourself the headaches and money and don't go this route.

I just got my 8x8 rims in from RI and they look very well built. I plan to mount a 22x11x8 tire on them to get a little flatter looking tire for the tracks. On the conquest you do not have a lot of room to play with a much larger tire.
