Can anyone please advise what are the ideal modern day equivalents for the original 70's FAT CAT Goodrich tyres. I know that I have to have an adapter plate for the axle, but what size hub, tyre width/diameter/tread pattern should I look for?

What is the rim size. If the rims are really wide like the fat cat tires you might not be able to find a modern tire that is wide enough for the rims. Without the rim size we can't point you in the right direction. Most modern AATV tires go on a 8" or 9" diameter rims in 7", 8", and 10" widths.
Some common replacement aatv tires are the Argo line, Carlisle at101, and kendas. These are 22x11x8s and the Argos are 22x10x8 or 25x12x9.

I would buy the 3 to 5 lug adaptors from Adair Argo if no one has a used set available for you. If you can run a 22" tire and can find a set of goodyear rawhide III's, that would be the way to go. Put them on the recreatives k-lock 8" rim and you would be all set. If you can only fit 21's, the carlisles that summit racing sells would be the tire of choice on the same rim. Both Iv those options skid steer well and swim pretty decent. If swimming isn't a concern, that opens the doors to many options.l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!
