  • New set of tires or tracks

Good morning. I just got my first Argo. Its a 1999 Response its in great shape only 101 hours on it. The only thing is the tires are original and are worn pretty bad in the center . I want to use the machine for duck hunting farm ponds current and waves are not an issue. I would drive across fields, drive thru the marsh grass and cattails, and mud to get into the water to put out decoys and then back to shore.Should I get a new set of Runamucks or a set of the Adair Tracks (the 1800.00 ones) to put over my old tires . I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks Bob

If your tires don't have any sun/dry rot or cracking on them, I would do tracks. You would spend around $1200 to put a new set of Argo AT189 tires on it anyway. From what I have seen you would not have any worries in those conditions with tracks.

One concern with tracks is power and gearing. What tranny is in your Response? There is a letter stamped on the top that indicates the gear ratio (H=High, M=Medium, G=Low). The G tranny is "optimized" for track use, but I know guys run them with the M and H. The low would be best for your HP output.

The gear reducing quality of the Adair Classic Tracks would also make them suitable for the Med Geared Trans, IMHO. I don't think I would track a high geared machine though.

If you can only do one or the other, by far track it. the classic track is awesome for cattails, mud, and loon sloop.Maybe I'm bias, but the reason I'm a big track fan is I do not like to get stuck, period.
I would be willing to bet, though, that you could get set up with tracks, and good USED tires, for not a lot more.
