I recently put a new set of Carlisle AT101's on my Max II as the 21" Goodyear Rawhides were showing a fair amount of wear. Tires were a great price ($62.95) from a link found here on the forum. To look at them I can't see any difference in the Carlisles and Rawhides. Tonight I finally got the chance to take it for a swim and I think I am a little disappointed. They do swim and swim just OK but clearly the Rawhides swim better. I am still at 5 psi soon going to 3 psi but have been reducing pressure by degrees to make sure they get a good seat on the rim. Anyone else observed this difference?

I believe the profile of the AT101 is slightly more rounded than the Rawhide which may let it cut through the water a tad more. The objective of an amphibious tire is to push the water which is why tire such as the runamok, Argo Carlisle and Vendetta with the wider ((((( pattern works so well. Just think of swimming with your fingers open or closed, closed does much better at propulsion.sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

They are a decent tire and definitely a decent price. You can run tracks with them as I will. They do swim just not as great as my Rawhides though I did have them aired to 8 psi to insure a good rim seal I have since reduced to 3 psi. I hope to try them swimming soon hopefully will be better. The Rawhides that look so similar were excellent swimmers.I have been looking for 22 inch Rawhide III's as I want to build dual wheel adapters. I have got close to Rawhide III's a time or two but no luck yet.

If you're running Argo tracks make sure to mount them on 7" wide rims.sigpic
