  • Good year tire mounting

Does it make a difference in the direction of the thread when mounting tires? I picked up some Goodyear rawhide III tires and want to get the best performance on land and water.

Yes, it matters. Mount half of them each way, then install them on the machine <<<<<< looking at the top of the tire with the front of the machine to the right. They will often be marked with the opposite direction for traction. Ignore that. The theory is with the "V" pointing forward it will push mud out of the tread and allow better grip on the next time around.....doesn't work, mud is too sticky. You want them backwards to funnel water to the center of the tire for best water speed.

And if you want to try it for yourself it is easy enough to swap the tires from one side to the other.

I have seen them both ways is why i was asking. So having the point of the " V "going forward is the best way?

Traditional tractor tires always have the V pointing to the ground as the tire goes around. In other words, stand on the tractor facing forward and look down at the top of the tire, the V should be pointing at the FRONT of the tractor. The idea is the V's push dirt/mud away from the center for better grabbing.

That needs to be the opposite on a 6x6, the V's need to point at the BACK of the 6x6. As mentioned, the V's scoop water better.

I've seen lots of photos of mixed tire directions, maybe one on each side backwards, and I'd guess for better reverse action in water.
