I've been wondering if chains on tires would make a difference in snow and mud. I will buy tracks someday but until then I'm thinking chains might make a difference. Has anybody tried them? What would be the benefits or disadvantages to running chains?

Chains on tires? Do they do any good in mud and snow?

First, let me say that I have not tried chains. I do have tracks, and they are on until I die. The problem that I have had (Before Treads) is getting high center in the snow. I cannot see how chains would help with this problem. My best fix (BT) was a winch to pull me rig back to where the tires touched. With treads, I hope to be able to "float" on top of the snow, instead of sinking in. Chains may help with ice, but I actually like the way the Argo handles on ice. I will miss the lazy spins out on Lake Michigan.
I guess the question is how much snow you will be driving through. I think that Minnesota would have plenty of deep snow.

John, I will have to look up the russian snow machine and yes drjim, plenty of snow up here. I'm at the point now where I can't ride much except on the roads and hope to get it on the ice this year. I someday will have tracks when I can afford them. Thanks for the input on the chains."I'm NOT stuck, I'm just temporarily stopped"
