  • Tire popping off rim

I did it again today. In fact, I did it with two tires. This time I'm pretty sure I have the psi right. However, I keep deflating my tires. My theory is that it's the narrow trails that I drive through sometimes. I know I probably shouldn't, but then again I know I can and I can't stop myself. It seems as though in those narrow trails the grousers on my adair tracks get pushed in and the push in on the tire, popping it off the rim.

It happened with two tires today, one of which magically popped back on and has experienced no further pressure loss. The other has a very slow leak after popping most of the way back on (you should have seen it before it got the seal back... So,I know it fixed itself mostly). When this happens I'm still good to ride for a while, but it's pretty annoying. Any suggestions?

By the way, this is on an argo. So maybe this belongs in tire and tracks, but I was curious if any other argo owners had experienced this with argo tires and stock wheels.

If the bead is set right it shouldn't spin off like that. Have you checked to make sure there are no slow leaks in the tires. If you have a leak and your psi reaches 0 or close, than there is nothing forcing your bead in its proper place. The. As the tire flexes the bead breaks and tire can spin. I had a slow leak on the bead. Popped the tire off, used a soft wire brush to clean the bead on both sides of the rim, used a little bead sealer and no problem. Just a thought.

Well, I let the tire sit for a week with no loss in pressure. Yesterday when it popped off the bead and mostly resecured itself, there were some faint bubbles around the rim and the tire. I know the tire itself isn't leaking. Maybe it's a wheel issue? When I go out there today I expect it to be nearly out of air.

I had this problem when I lived in NC. I didn't have tracks on my Bigfoot, but the tires were constantly getting popped of the rims because of the black gooey mud in beaver swamps that prevented the Argo from moving sideways at all when the sidewall of the tire came in contact with a hidden log, stump, cypress knee, etc. The problem was then compounded by the debris and mud that would get between the rim and deflated tire. When the tire was returned to normal pressure this "junk" would now cause the tire to slowly, or not so slowly lose pressure, causing it to pop off the rim even more easily.

So I upped the tire pressure to try to keep the tires on the rims. This helped a little, but not enough to make me happy, plus you lose the performance of the low pressure tires. And in a beaver swamp, hard, over inflated tires don't do nearly as well as soft, properly inflated tires. With your track, maybe this wouldn't be as big of a deal, but I don't know, I've never run a track.

So what did I do? I put inner tubes in the tires and the problem was solved. Now I know that many places Argos are run, the risk of tire punctures makes tubes prohibitive. This isn't the case in a beaver swamp. There are very few puncture hazards involved. If I had it to do over again, I think I might try an inner beadlock. It's like a short inner tube that just inflates near the bead. Google inner beadlocks and you'll see what I mean. But again, I want to say, I have never run the inner beadlocks, but I think it would be the way I would go if I experienced this frustrating problem again.

        Hope this helps

If you upgrade to a K-lock wheel, the bead rolled into the wheel will hold the tire better than the stock Argo wheels. K-lock wheels include Mudd-Ox 9" and 12" wheels and Max 8" and 12" wheels.

Yes they will. They're a great addition to your machine. I believe your 24" Argo tires have 8" rims so they'll work for you.

I think this should solve my problem. I'll give it a try.
