  • Help i need advice for argo guru's about tires and homemade tracks

    Hello
I hope you all had a great xamas. I have a older argo 8x8, my plan is to build my tracks from snowmachine tracks. I seen the fellas setup on here and I plan to do the same. I have 6 rotted tires I need to replace on my rig now. what I want to know is can I use atv tires if im running tracks? I know I would have to replace all 8 not just the 6 bad ones. I ask because I can save about 500 bones if I use atv tire vs the argos. I understand that my argo will not swim without the right tires, but will it matter if I have tracks?

any thoughts or input would be awesome! im very new to 8x8/6x6s so im sorry if this I a dumb question.
    Have a productive day!!

What tracks are you considering? The main concern is that the profile of the tire will work with the design of your desired tracks. The intended purpose of the tire is not that important if they stay in the tracks.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

The Max 2 I used to own had a set of Adair tracks with regular atv tires that locked into the tracks really well. I would think the same would apply if you built your own tracks.

        Thanks Guys,
Anybody have a idea how well it will swim with say a 1.25 lug on a the snowmachine track? Do tracks slow you down in the water? Thanks again for the input.

My advice for anyone with tracks is to carry a canoe paddle. Most track vehicles with solid rubber tracks don't swim enough to get you back to shore in a breeze. If your Argo is an older one and you are going to use cleated tracks tub clearance directly over tires can be an issue. 20 or 21 inch tires may be necessary. Have fun
