2005 Max II Desert / Sand / Rock Tires

I live in California. There isn't much mud around here. Mostly desert/sand/rocks. I was thinking about getting 22x9x12.5 Vampires, but would the tread get torn up on rocks? Maybe the Duro is a better tire? Any opinions?
