Widening 13.5" Tracks

I have a 2002 6x6 Bigfoot and a set of 13.5" plastic tracks, I'm wondering if it's possible to widen them out a bit for better snow floatation, I was thinking about cutting out some triangle 1" or 2" thick pieces of HDPE and bolt them to the outside of the track guides to gain width, has anyone done a modification like this?
