  • what tires work good on a skid steer?

Well exactly what my headline asks. My "new" old argo needs some rubber. What are some tires in 8" rim sizes that work well on a skid steer vehicle like an argo?

Each tread pattern does better in different situations. For a skid steering machine you need limited side bite to allow for better steering. You also need to look at swimming and mudding abilities. For an older machine with limited body or axle clearance I'd suggest the new Argo tires if you can afford them. If not then look at Carlisle AT 101's.

Jumping from a 21" tire to a 25" will make a world of difference in a machines capabilities......If you can fit larger tires on it, I would. Bigger IS better.

Ok i will go ahead and say mudding is more important than swimming for myself. I have an outboard if I know I definitely need to cross water

        HI
        Skid steering is important
Therefore unless u do a lot of mudding the Chevron/ V lug At101 Carlisle or Duro Hf255 4ply
The V Lug is a good all rounder mud swim steer comfort

A rounded shoulder such as At101/ Duro is far better than a square shape shoulder which is harder to skid steer

The chevron Carlisle 101/duro 255 looks good. I mean something that looks like a mini monster truck tire should work in mud. The wheeling in my area is pretty much mud, mud, and more mud.

            hi
Comfort and 6 ply tires are not 2 words that typically go together . [found this out comparing no flexibility in side wall bearclaw tires compared to v lug chevron ] .
Others maybe able to suggest a comfortable mud tire in the size you are chasing .

So what is there besides Carlisle argo, Carlisle 101, and duro 255 that people like that is available in 8" rim?

Anything with a "V" tread pattern will work, but many swim poorly.
How old is your Argo? The very old ones have smaller weaker axles and it would not be wise to go too aggressive with the tread. If you have the 1 1/4" axles that shouldn't be a concern. Have you considered looking for used RawhideIII tires? Or buying the new Argo tires that swim very well?

So with chevron tires does either the Carlisle or the duro supposedly do better than the other or is it pretty much 6 in one and half a dozen in the other? I don't like the idea of spending what 8 of the Carlisle argo tires cost.

I can confirm that the Duro Hf 255 tires do swim fitted to an 80s argo .
If u shop around either the Duro or the At101 Carlisle can be had for a cheap price around the 60$US
NB The duro is not listed often and is classed as an agricultural tire
The delivery costs also need quoting on or even better included in purchase cost

I believe the Carlisle 101 and duro 255 are nominally a trencher tire for a ditch witch.

                        hi

On the Duro site a HF255 is listed as a agricultural tire
On the Carlisle sit the At101 is listed as a lawn and garden
Both are not often listed as atv tires on the atv sites [can be hard to find at times ]
