  • swimming paddles

just for the fun of it and cause i like making stuff like the rest of you guy's, i made some swim paddles for the front wheels on my max 2. since i'm running half tracks i want to see if the paddles help any in the water.so i'll give them a test at busco. if they work maybe someone will get a video of them. if not, they will make good ninja throwing '' stars ''. johnboy va.

I saw some paddles on the internet that were intended to be installed on 4-wheelers. They mount directly on the hubs much like J-Wheelz do. I was wondering if a set of those might make a tracked rig swim better? I look forward to seeing your post on the results of your experiment.

I do believe that Rock Doctor's better half....... had some on her 4 wheeler. If you serch some of his vids you may see them in action.
Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgHey Johnboy, I have these water wheel things that I got when I bought my max 4, I guess they were on a max 2 and worked good on front tires. They didn't work very good for the 4, if you want to see if they work on yours I'll throw them in the truck..

Found an older pic of the "Mudslingers" that I had on a quad for many yrs. I can't say that they helped it swimm at all though, lol.
I believe they are made by Quadivator now (I got mine as a Demo Set, before they went into production)

hey friends, the ones i made look alot like the picture of the mudslingers in rock doctors picture. i knew it wasn't a new idea , but it was fairly easy to make them. thanks norm for the offer. i think mine are close enough to those you have to see if they work at all. will be a fun test to report back on after busco. see ya soon. johnboy va.

hey riotwarrior, yes i really need to brush up on my computer picture skills. see if i can get ruth to take a pic. here is a quick descrip of the design. i already had a extra wheel extension for tracks 5'' i believe. so i took off the lug nuts on the wheel and bolted the extension on. it pretty much stuck out flush with the tire face. bought 2 metal disc 3/16'' x 6 1/2 '' round online $ 4 apiece. drilled the holes to match the extension lug pattern. welded 5 arms to the disc spaced evenly using 3/4 angle. made them about 5'' long so the diameter of the whole paddle wheel is smaller than the tire, like the mudslingers. the i bolted a piece of 1/4'' thick piece of rubber belting about 2x3 '' on the end of each arm as a paddle. i like that because they will flex if you hit a rock or log when not in the water.they bolt on and off real easy. the extensions can just stay on the wheel. by the way, i welded about a 1 1/2'' off the angle to the disc face for strength. hope this helps. pics soon . thanks johnboyva.

THIS ^ is why I never replaced mine after wearing them out. I had many fun rides, and good times with the Mudslingers, but no way in hell that they are worth the money they want to charge.
They are a good conversation starter, lol.

rock doctor, the nice thing about the ones i made is the metal parts will last if they are kept painted (powder coat would last well) , plus the rubber paddles can be changed easily and cheaply. and you can make them bigger if need be. one size for fresh water, one for salt water !! cool. will test them next week. they install and come off as quick as it takes to remove or tighten 5 lug nuts. johnboy va.
