  • Tyres, Wheels, n Tracks

On my way home today from town shopping I stopped by a fellows place whom had an Argo 8x8. He had told me he replaced the tyres with new ones and just had the others hanging around.

Ah what a score of six used Good Year 20x11x8 runnamucks

So now I'm on the hunt for good BEAD LOCK rims for these tyres, then I can begin the task of acquiring some 1 1/2" channel and bolts and begin making me a set of tracks finally.

IF possible I'll be using snowmobile tracks with 1 1/2- 2" paddles for belting so hopefully I can swim well.

Of course you can expect a thorough documentation of said build of tracks.

Does/has anyone used aluminum wheels if so what kind...keep weight down right?

Anyway I'm on the hunt for 8" wheels with 5 bolt pattern.

I'll get some pictures of the tyres ASAP...

on another note, I did manage to get some TIG welding done on my axle.

I'll get pics asap as well.

    Thanks for reading

    E D I T

Ahh the bling all the bling LOL

This tyre is inflated to 17 lbs the runnamok has no rim notice how crowned it is

Now the bear claw has 0 lbs pressure...wider and shorter and no crown...

So there ya have it, six tyres now for wheels somewhere and I'll be golden to get steel for tracks!

    Thanks for looking

Just managed to get a neighbor whom operates snow cats at local ski hill, he has some belting I can use for my tracks. Once I get belting I'll begin to source the channel iron for the track and 6 wheels as well.

Oh, here are the tyres, nicely nestled up on my mezzanine...just the place till I get more material for tracks.

What a score today, Neil came by today with some snow cat belts, wow....what a score, this is what he brought me for my project and is looking into a couple pieces of narrower belts as well as some bushings and so forth.

belting is about 9 1/2" wide by bout 7/16" thick...

      Nice belt lacing too!

the large roll is about 24 feet long..there are four rolls in total and the small one about 21 feet he figures

from factory the lacing is riveted

and bolted...nice I can make this stuff work for sure!

      and the under side

So now it's six wheels and about 10 bars of 1 1/2" channel and I'll start making tracks for my machine...

Next I guess I better locate some wheels, that's going to be hard locally...doh.

      Thanks for looking

Wow, nice score indeed! The Chanel tracks use fang bolts to bolt the "chanels" onto the belting with matching nylon lock nuts. They work pretty well and are pretty cheap in bulk. Good luck on the project.

How are you bending your Chanel? Are you done?

Douglas makes a nice set of Aluminum wheels in 8". Not very expensive either. I've got a 4 on 4" pattern for a UTV I'm building, but they also make a 5 on 4.5".

There are several makes of tires in 20" that are the nobby style out there. They work well with tracks but don't swim.
