  • What would happen If.....................

What would happen if I were to grind down the thread on the 4 centre tires of an 8 wheel argo with supertracks. I have 4 surplus to my need tires that would be good candidates for a test run.

Would this help eliminate some of the chain issues.

I am thinking out loud here and I know thousands of ideas that have been bounced around over the years.

Not speaking from experience here but not enough slip I don't think....track tuners are way to go I'm guessing

If you are thinking of making the 4 centre tires smaller and smooth. There are a couple of things that may happen you are putting more load on the four corner tires and that makes it harder to turn. Unless you have nice and big centre tires forget it.
Two the plastic track has a problem with traction between tire and track to begin with. I was fighting with to little traction between tire and track. and it created a very dangerous situation going down a steep hill. I ended up with no control at all. Thank goodness, I hit a tree before going over a cliff. The tracks were slipping on the tires leaving me with a runaway argo. Talk about s..t your pants. Now I go for as much traction as I can get. And the argo plastic tracks are holding up a fence in the back yard. Where they belong. Sorry but I do not recommend it.

        What if

That is exactly what I want to hear..... now would track tuners not do the same.... leaving the centre wheels with no traction......

          Wow Old Tucker bad situation.

Guy, I believe that Tim has expressed a few times, as well as Buzz, at some point that the track tuners are beneficial to every track out there EXCEPT Argo plastic tracks which do not need them because of the slip of the centers tires. Was planning on letting someone else answer your original question but interest or just responses are minimal.

We are Flatlanders so slippage like OT's has not occurred and only personal issue was with an old I/C eating a rear bearing from tracks being too tight, and the normal lack of outer bearing maintenance issues from machines we repaired.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
          Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Thank You ArgoJim... PS:.this sun going to bed at 4PM is starting to take its toll on me. I must operate on solar panels because I am much more productive in sunlit hours than I am after dark. It however gives us time to discuss the many issues we have with our machines.
