When making tire guides out of steel flat stock I was thinking of putting rubber hose around each tire guide part that comes in contact with the tire sidewall,my thinking is the would protect the tire and maybe remove slop in side to side movement of the tracks.Thoughts and opinions needed thanks.

flippy, merry xmas. after making my tire guides out of 1 1/2'' x 3/16'' flat bar for my half tracks,i have'nt had any problems with them and the tires. i bent them to follow the profile of the tires, with a 45 degree angle at each corner. they fit nice with maybe a 1/4'' space between guide and sidewall. the guide legs come down the side of the tire about 4 ''. i think the main thing is grind the corners and edges nice so they glide smooth against the tire side. you could dip them in the rubber coating thats on tool handles.''plastic dip''. good luck. look forward to seeing the finished tracks. johnboy va.

I must spend 2 hours a day watching your half tracks video and reading and looking at you first design of the half tracks.Did you put the tire guides on top of the belt or are they on the bottom of the belt where the track meets the groujd? I want to copy your version, how much flat stock did you use?I bought 15' of 2" x 3/16" flat stock and 20 ' of 1" x 3/16" flat stock,I also bought 20' of 14" wide conveyor belt with a diamond type grip and 30' of square steel detachable chain ,there is a tool shop closing buy my house and all of the above only cost me $40.He is selling steel at only .28 cents a pound so I want to make sure I have enough before its all gone. Thanks for helping me out ,did you bent your steel cold or did you heat it up first?I know my steel is not the same size as yours but I am stuck buying whatever is left .
