Any body run tire chains in the winter for more traction? I will be doing some plowing on a tarred sloped driveway that gets icy. I am thinking one set of chains on the rear tires will be good enough. Any thoughts?

My guess is that the chains will probably tear up the blacktop.
The trouble with retirement is.... I never get a day off !!!!

My buddy runs 4 chains on his 2 when plowing. Tub clearance if critical as a loose chain will cut the plastic quickly. I would run chains on the front tires because of plow weight when trying to back up, fronts have more traction.

Front's only would cut down on the wear and surface scraping etc I would think.

          I don't agree.
Chains on any of the tires will be sliding/gouging the blacktop whenever the 6x6 is turning .

maybe the co. that makes ''autosock'' ice and snow traction tire covers could help you, definately wouldn't gouge the pavement. johnboy.va

I have a 1996 Max II 23hp Vanguard with 5 inch wheel extension. I bought chains for the machine and love them. I have a black tote (used by ice fishermen) that I load up with wood. I have travelled through the woods and over ice on my creek. They absolutely work fantastic. I have travelled across 10 inches of snow with them. I use chains on each tire supported by chain tensioners and also I add additional rope or wire to secure each chain also.
