  • tru-trax are stretched out

Like the title said, my tru-trax have about 4" of sag between the tires(21-11-8 TITAN?) They are on a 1995 Max IV. Airing the tires way up (20 psi) will not take the slack out. Todd @ tru-trax thought I should be able to take a full link out. I think that would make them waaay too tight (borderline impossible to even reattach). How tight is too tight and how loose is too loose? What is the proper tension for tru-trax? They do make a half link but they are $70 EACH! Ironically, a full link is only $14. Any suggestions aside from buying new adairs? I'd be willing to trade someone with 22" tires...

Also, once I achieve proper tension, how much clearance will I have between the top of the tracks and the bottom of the fenders for a set of home-made cleats?

    Thanks in advance

I would attempt to remove a link. If you can't reconnect them purchase a half link. Lot cheaper than tires or new tracks. If the pins and knuckles arnt warn to the point that pins will soon pull out they are still usable. How much sag do you get under center tire with vehicle off the ground at 5 psi? Usually go for about 2-3 inches under center tire. Try not to run more than 7 psi at proper tension so you can go up a bit if needed. 3/4" tub to track is good as long as the body isn't two flexible. Hope this helps a bit.

doubleclutch, i think it may work to remove one link, then connect back with a 1/4'' thick piece of rubber belting the right width. bolt each side with 1/4'' bolts and fender washers and locknuts. you will have a space missing one guide but may not be a problem. you will have to unbolt one end to remove track eachtime but that's pretty quick. just another thought. may be alot cheaper. that's how i connect my halftracks. johnboy va.
