  • Track dilemma

Hello from New York I recently acquired a 1993 Max IV it came with tracks,I'm sure were never on it.After a battle I got them on,the problem is they smack the under body.I see that the cleats are tapered I installed them high side of taper out,Any pointers would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Plastic or rubber? I would find out what you should have for sag under the middle tires and adjust the air pressure accordingly. I have Adair tracks and they go on easy but you have to take the air and valves out of the valve stems on the front and rear tires to install the tracks.

They are steel cleats which are about 1"tapered to 1/4".There is very little track sag and I have about 6 lbs in the tires.

With that track, you need to run wheel spacers. Move the track away from the body. My 93 Maxll came with a set. Not much will stop them. Great in mud and snow! Where in N.Y. Are you? One more thing, if you remove the center tire when installing your tracks, they go on real easy. Once you have the middle tire back on, inflate your tires to about 15psi. This will insure that your beads will seat. Then deflate to 5 psi. The 3/4" taper to the outside. This track came with spacers. When I got mine I ordered 2 1/2" spacers from Adair Argo.

Thanks for all the help I sure wish I found this site a week ago it would have saved me a lot of work. I drove back to the barn where I found the Max and sure enough there where the spacers that I didn't even know existed. Now I get to do it all over again. Oh well live and learn! I have another question, the tire rotation is different from one side to the other is there a proper way? Also I'm from Ulster County.

Hi again, run the "V" facing to the rear of the machine on both sides. When you get ready too reinstall your tracks, remove the guts of the valve stems. You can get the small removal tool from Walmart. They come in real handy. Remove middle tire. Start to work the tracks on. Works better with two people. They will go on in minutes not hours. Reinstall that center tire. Don't forget to overinflate in order to set the bead! Back off to 4psi, should be good! Tattooman. P.S St. Lawrence county. I am not sure how far away that is from you, always looking for someone to ride with!

Thanks I've got the tool so I'm heading to the garage to put it back together. I might as well grease the axles while I'm at it. The machine sat for ten years so it needs some TLC. I'm about an hour and a half south of Albany a long way from St. Lawrence county
