  • Bigger tires better for swimming?

I have a Vanguard with 22 chevron tires and my buddy has a bigfoot 25 rawhide. Mine will only do 1 km max. The bigfoot will do 5 or more.

I would think that the larger tires provide greater flaotation and more or the tire sits out of the water thus maybe providing more scoop to paddle with? I know my bifoot sits lower in the water with the 22 runamucks but i've never checked water speed between both tires. I also seem to recall reading somewhere that the argos sit nose low when floating and the rear tire sits out higher and again more paddle above water and this is what provides alot of the propulsion? I can't confirm any of this but I think it's just a flaotation thing with the bigger tires. Curious to hear what others may say. Next time in the water try rocking the vangaurd gently to raise the tires on one side out of the water a little more and see if that helps. When I run the adair tracks on the machine in the water I can go a little faster by doing this. It's a give and take due to changing course each time.

Different tires act differently in different machines. Bigger is not always better. My little Attex with 21" rawhide I's was a speed boat in the water compared to anything else, but when I put the 22" rawhide III's on, it slowed me way down in the water.

The larger the tires the more resistance. That may be why some of the smaller tires work better in water. They rotate at a higher speed under less resistance.
        Just my two cents

Well it also depends with the gearing and the mods of the engine has. But usually larger tires will give better traction.
