  • Cheng Shin Lumberjacks?

I have an Argo 8x8 (early 80s?)project that I need to replace all 8 of the old 20x11-8s tires on (rot while sitting for years).
I just picked up a parts rig that is missing 3 wheels & tires but the remaining 5 are in excellent condition. They are 22x11-8 Lumberjacks so I was figuring on buying 3 more of them so I will have a full set 8 nice tires for cheap.
My question is what everyone's experience is with these tires. My rig will primarily be a moose hunting rig here in Alaska. Tracks are not in my near future. My Argo experience is almost none...

    Thanks

    Well nobody said no so....
I went ahead & ordered 4 new ones (rant to follow) so I would have a matching spare. The tread pattern looks good to me. I'm assuming they won't swim well but I may be surprised. We shall see...
    Now for the rant...
Yes I know it costs a bit more to ship to Alaska, but I get really tired of the misleading "free shipping" stuff that pops up even when they are showing my zip code. Then when I get to check out I see $300-$400 to ship my 4 tires (independent shops & Amazon)! Or Dennis Kirk. I put 4 tires in my cart & gave my zip code to calculate shipping (free everywhere else on orders over $89). It specifically says $12.95 for standard ground shipping to Alaska. I place my order but after entering all my info & going to the payment screen it keeps kicking back to the shopping page. Order disappears. I finally call & she quotes my $300 plus for shipping. Arghh. Finally found an Ebay guy that had the best price yet, & it showed a total of $30 for shipping. Made it $80 total per tire shipped! Order went through. He sent me a very nice email apologizing to me saying that the $30 should have come up as $30 per tire. He would happily refund my money for the entire order or charge an additional $90 bringing order total to $410, about $100 per tire. I sent him $90 so I could be done with it!
I love living in Alaska, but sometimes.... There is an oil refinery 9 miles from our town, 13 off shore oil platforms within 25 miles, & MANY on shore oil wells within 30 miles.. And we are paying $3.60 per gallon for regular unleaded :-(
Oh well :-) Back to another sunny day!

Vance I ship tires with the free vendors to port in Fife WA and pay the freight for barge here. Price varies from 125-200 a set but free to the port. Were enjoying a bit of rain with lots of smoke. Starting to feel like a piece of bacon here. Still love this place

Finally cooling down a bit here too. Those 80-90* temps were killing me :-) The heat in Fairbanks would bother me more than the cold!
So you get your tires shipped to the port in ANC & then pick them up (or have someone else do it) there? I may have to look into that if I ever go full set.
