i've read on off roading sites about using sheet metal screws through the rim and into the tires bead with non beadlock rims. anyone doing this on their aatv's. i tore the bead on one of my tires mounting it, so it's already full of slime. i read a post a while back about slime acting as a lubricant to make the tires slide off the bead, so i want to ensure that they stay in place. any advice (and pics of where in the bead you put the screws) would be highly appreciated

screwing tires to rims?

Hey racer, I haven't used screws on the tires on my Argo, but we used to use screws on the slicks on the race car until we bought bead lock rims. The screws were evenly spaced around the rim and were centered in the lip area of the rim. You could align the screws with the 5 mounting holes in your rim. Leave a small space under the head of the screw so when the bead flexs a bit it won't pop the head off the screw. I would think that a # 8 or #10 sheet metal screw would work. Don't get ones to long because it will probably leak air. We used screws that when we left about 10 thou of clearance under the head, the sharp end of the screw did not go through the bead all the way. A little of bit silicone on the screw when you turn it in will help against an air leak. Hope this helps you out.
Cheers, Al
